Venice Beach
Located on the Westside of Los Angeles, California, Venice Beach is home to everything and anything adored about the West Coast. From the fortunetellers at the Boardwalk to the galleries, nightclubs and award-winning restaurants in downtown, the eclectic world of Venice is unlike any other place in the country.
Centrally located between the cities of Marina Del Rey, Culver City, Mar Vista and Santa Monica, Venice Beach is an important tourist attraction in Southern California, and has retained its popularity in part because it is an attractive location for walking and bicycling. It was home to some of Los Angeles’ early beat poets and artists and has served as important cultural center of the city. Venice Beach is positively bewitching and almost impossible to leave.
Downtown Venice
Formed by the crossings of Abbot, Kinney, Grand Boulevard and Main Street, downtown Venice is a destination not to be missed. During the 1920’s and 1930’s, downtown Venice had a very active nightlife and thousands of Californians would arrive every night to dine, drink, party and celebrate life. Nightlife has always been popular here in Venice but it wasn’t until the 1960’s when the hippie culture boomed that the city really took on a life of its own in being unique. Downtown Venice became a center of hippie culture. In the late 1990’s, Venice saw another huge surge of energy as many popular trendy nightclubs, art galleries, bars and edgy apparel shops starting popping up and fueled not only the local scene but also the tourists coming to visit this beautiful city.
Venice Boardwalk
Venice Beach Boardwalk is one of the most popular boardwalks in the United States, and is enjoyed by many Los Angeles travelers. The Boardwalk is the best way to experience true Venice lifestyle and is a great example of how colorful life can be as there are many different styles that come together to make up this city’s history. The Boardwalk, which runs beside Venice beach, is 2.5 kilometers in length. It has a bike path, roller skaters and skateboard ramps, restaurants, shops of all kinds, and plenty of tourists. Tourists can walk along and take in the many street peddlers and vendors that blanket the Boardwalk, offering everything from handmade jewelry to fortune telling. It is located right by downtown Venice and the world famous Muscle Beach is actually on the Boardwalk itself.
East Venice
East Venice is a racially and ethnically mixed, residential neighborhood of Venice that is separated from Oakwood and Milwood (the area south of Oakwood) by Lincoln Boulevard, extending east to the border with Mar Vista, near Venice High School. Aside from the commercial strip on Lincoln, the area almost entirely consists of small homes and apartments as well as Penmar Park and (bordering Santa Monica) Penmar Golf Course.
